How to handle a new terracotta pot

If you want your terracotta item to withstand time and abrasion, follow these little precautions and your item will last a lifetime! The new pans, before being used for cooking, need this fundamental initial treatment. Here’s what to do:

1. Completely dip the pan in hot water (about 30/40 ° C), to get it used to heat and to hydrate the terracotta (previously dried for its cooking at high temperatures during production). It is possible that contact with water releases bubbles towards the surface. There is nothing to worry about! It is a normal reaction due to the air escaping from the clay micropores;

2. Allow the pot to air dry for 4/5 hours, placing it with the bottom facing upwards and the edge not resting completely, so as to evaporate the humidity and obtain a better conservation over time;

3. Wash it with normal dish detergent and dry it well;

4. At this point the pot is ready to cook! You can use it in the oven, in the microwave, on the stove, on the fire.
